What to Do When Your Car Breaks Down

Don’t freak out. That is the first option most people do when their car breaks down. For all you first time drivers out there, here are 5 tips on what to do if your car ever breaks down.

Turn on the Hazard Lights

At this point, you should know how all the devices in your car work. Press the hazard button which turns the hazard lights on. Hazard lights warn other drivers of your situation. Keep the lights on until help arrives.

Pull off the Road

Don’t stay on the road. Head off to the right of the road, slowly, and stop. Pull off to a safe and flat location as far away from moving traffic. And turn your wheels away from the road with the emergency brake on.

Don’t Leave Your Vehicle

Here is the most important advice that we are going to give you. Never, and we repeat, never leave your vehicle unattended on the road. Authorities worry that something terrible may have happened to you. Avoid getting out of the car to avoid damages.

If you do need to get out of the car, make sure that you are in a safe place.

Call for Help

Once your car breaks down, call someone to aid you. Call for any roadside help. You should also contact friends or family to see if they can assist you. Unless it is a real emergency, there is no need to call 911.

Make Yourself Visible

When it’s dark out, it’s best to put on all the lights that you have in the car. Flares do a good job. Keep the area lit so you don’t run into any trouble. Or worse, a car that does not see you when flying around the corner.
